Carster.com, a new online community for car enthusiasts, is just one in a new trend of online "garages" that stores video, pictures and background information on members.

"People look on the internet for almost all their car news," claims Ryan Porter, co-founder of online car community Carster.

Based in Seattle, Wash., Carster features free membership and social networking for all types the more general car enthusiast. "Social networking areas are out there, but none were specific enough for automobiles or they are too specific," says Porter.

Carster, he says, is an "overall car enthusiast area" for people who want to join and interact with like-minded autophiles. "At Carster, you can meet people with an interest in many cars," says Ryan, who attends car shows every weekend.

Porter says he got his love for cars mostly from his car collector father, who is into Cobras and PT Cruisers. "I'm so excited about having the opportunity to take on this project of building a car community," say Porter, claiming he has owned a Honda, a Dodge truck, a BMW sports car and a Subuaru Impreza.

"I've never stuck myself to driving one car, so that's what I like about Carster," he says. "It's so plain and simple. It's more for everyday car people.
